The Mayor of Zarqa announces the start of the second phase of combating “stray dogs.”

The Governor of Zarqa, Hassan Al-Jabour, announced the launch of the second phase to eliminate the phenomenon of stray dogs in the governorate.

During a meeting attended by Deputy Dr. Hayel Ayyash, the Mayor of Zarqa, Engineer Imad Al-Momani, and the Mayor of Ruseifa, Shadi Al-Zaynati, along with several directors of governmental executive bodies in the governorate, Al-Jabour explained that the first phase of the plan achieved tangible successes, including reducing the number of incidents to zero in some areas and by 50% in others.

Al-Jabour added that the first step involved relocating stray dogs from residential areas to areas outside the city, providing them with food from leftovers obtained from restaurants and food factories and collecting them in those areas. He affirmed that this process provides a suitable environment for these dogs to remain outside residential areas.

The second phase of the plan includes allocating a 20-dunam piece of land for collecting the dogs, rehabilitating them, and vaccinating them, with the long-term goal of utilizing them for social purposes such as guarding facilities and rehabilitating them more effectively.

Al-Jabour emphasized that Zarqa is considered an exemplary model in addressing the issue of stray dogs.

On his part, the President of the Care Society for Animal and Environmental Welfare, Ahmed Hussein Al-Tamimi, stated that the first phase involved distributing over 300,000 kilograms of remaining food from restaurants and food factories.

Al-Tamimi pointed out that the society has adopted a plan to retrieve the dogs at a rate of 50 meters during each daily feeding operation, while the society’s plan covered all areas of Zarqa.

He confirmed that the estimated number of stray dogs in Zarqa reaches a maximum of around 700 dogs, and the society has built a database to determine the appropriate methods for dealing with these animals.
